Position Summary
The Director of Human Resources is a senior leadership role responsible for partnering with the senior management team to develop and execute HR strategy in support of the organization’s mission and legal services work. This broad, generalist position oversees all core human resources functions, including recruitment, benefits administration (medical, dental, 403(b), and related programs), employee relations, compliance, and required reporting.
The Director, along with the Assistant Director, will play a key role in fostering a collaborative, transparent, and inclusive workplace culture.
Core Responsibilities:
Partner with the leadership team to understand and execute the organization’s human resource and talent strategy particularly as it relates to current and future talent needs, recruiting, retention, onboarding, and compensation.
Manage the talent acquisition process, which includes recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of qualified job applicants, and student internship programs. Collaborate with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
Lead benefits administration process, support employees with coverage and claims, and oversee benefit enrollment. Partner with brokers to evaluate programs and conduct cost-benefit analyses. Manage COBRA.
Serve as a consultative resource to management and staff on complex, sensitive issues, while effectively handling delicate matters such as accommodations, investigations, and terminations.
Monitor and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local leave policies, employment laws, and regulations; regularly review and update HR policies and practices to maintain compliance. Oversee and complete all required government reporting, including ACA, EEO, and related filings.
Analyze trends in compensation and benefits; researches and proposes competitive base and incentive pay and other programs to ensure the organization attracts and retain top talent.
Partner with Management to execute a structured performance management process.
Review employee handbook and recommend updates to ensure alignment with current organizational policies and practices.
Supervise Assistant Director, Human Resources.
Requirements
Qualifications:
B.S. in Human Resources or related field required; Masters and/or certifications such as SPHR, SHRM-SCP, PHR preferred. MHRM a PLUS.
8-10+ years of progressive human resources experience.
Prior experience in the Not-for-Profit sector highly preferred
